Computer Diagnostics and Regens
Derated and Dash Lit? Read the Truck Before You Buy Parts.
Rig Doctor brings commercial diagnostic equipment to the truck, reads active and stored faults, and runs forced regens on site, so a derated engine is diagnosed where it sits instead of towed to a dealer.
At a Glance
- Reads
- Engine, aftertreatment, ABS and body faults
- Runs
- Forced and parked regens on site
- Tests
- The system behind the code, not just the code
- Saves
- The tow to a dealer that is closed until Monday
A fault code names the circuit that complained. It does not name the part that failed. That distinction is the entire reason a truck can sit at a dealer for a week and come back with the same light on. Rig Doctor reads the truck on site and then tests what the code points at.

Aftertreatment is where most modern derates come from. A plugged filter, a failed sensor, a doser that is not dosing, low DEF quality, a stuck valve. Some of those are cleared with a parked regen in a safe spot and a conversation about why the truck stopped regenerating on its own. Others are a real repair. Knowing which one you have before the truck moves is worth more than any single part.
A regen is not a fix by itself. If the unit soots up again in four hundred miles, something upstream is wrong, and being told that honestly is the difference between a repair and a subscription. The same applies to clearing codes. Codes get read and recorded, not wiped to make a dash look good.
Diagnostics also cover the systems people forget. ABS faults that will not clear, transmission codes, body controllers and the sensors that live a hard life on a trailer.
What That Covers
- Commercial diagnostic equipment brought to the truck
- Active, stored and pending faults read and recorded
- Aftertreatment, DPF and DEF system troubleshooting
- Forced and parked regens performed on site
- ABS, transmission and body module faults
Read the Symptom
What It Usually Means
Engine derated to a crawl
The ECM is limiting power for a reason. Read it before you move it any further than you have to.
Check engine light plus poor fuel mileage
Often a sensor feeding bad data rather than a mechanical failure. Testing separates the two.
Regen keeps failing or never completes
Something is stopping the cycle. Repeating it without fixing the cause just burns fuel.
DEF warning counting down
There is a clock on that. Once it expires you are at five miles an hour wherever you happen to be.
