What We Get Called For

A Breakdown Is a Clock Problem

Hours of service burn while the truck sits. The receiver moves the appointment. The reefer runs down. Rig Doctor exists to shorten that clock, which is why the tooling and the common failure parts already ride on the service truck instead of waiting at a shop across town.

The Work

Diagnosed on the Shoulder, Fixed on the Shoulder

Most roadside work never needs a shop. A blown air line, a dead battery bank, a chafed harness, a lost drive tire, a starter, a fuel filter, a sheared mud flap bracket. All of it is field work when the technician arrives with the right parts already on the truck.

When a job genuinely belongs in a bay, you are told that early rather than after four hours of labor on the side of the road. An honest read on what failed and whether the unit is safe to limp is worth as much as the repair.

How a roadside call actually runs

Have This Ready When You Call

Three answers cut the response time more than anything else you can do.

  1. Your exact locationHighway, direction of travel, the last mile marker or exit you passed, the scale, the truck stop or the jobsite address. If you have a phone location, read the coordinates. Being one exit off can cost an hour.
  2. The unitYear, make and model of the tractor or trailer, the unit number, and the tire size if it is a tire call. For a reefer, the make and model of the unit itself. This is what decides which parts come on the truck.
  3. What actually happenedWarning lights and fault codes word for word, noises, smells, leaks, and what the unit will and will not do. What it was doing in the minute before it stopped matters more than almost anything else.

No Surprises

How the Bill Works

Heavy duty mobile work carries a callout, a labor minimum and travel. Everybody in the trade charges those. The difference is whether you hear the number before the truck rolls or afterward.

Price agreed before the wrench turns

You hear the callout, the labor and the travel before anyone is dispatched. Nothing starts until you say go.

A two hour labor minimum

A roadside call ties up a truck, a tech and a load of tooling. Two hours is the floor on any call, the same as most heavy duty mobile outfits.

Travel billed post to post

The clock runs from the shop to your rig and back. It is one number, quoted up front, not a surprise line on the invoice.

After hours is a real rate, not a penalty

Nights, weekends and holidays carry a callout. We tell you what it is on the phone so you can weigh it against sitting until Monday.

Can't Say enough about these guys. They helped me with my lift gate that got stuck in the up position and wouldn't lower. 1) They were the only ones to answer the phone at 11:30 pm. 2) They drove an hour to get to me. 3) He told me is not that knowledgeable on lift gates, but he will at least get it down. 4) he brought a part from his own snowplow to fix the gate. 5) price was fair. Highly recommend you call these guys.

Thank you

Chance fixed our air pressure issues for our driver. He also stopped at a truckstop to grab a padlock for us! That willingness to help is rare these days. Chance was able to confirm prior to the job that he had ready parts like air hose and governors, if needed, that other techs we called did NOT have on hand.
Communication was consistently reliable throughout the entire process. Always answered texts and calls. On site he found the problem quickly and sent videos. Invoice was detailed and clear including receipts for the padlock.

I drive for an entertainer and we had a bus issue and broke down at 3am on a Saturday morning. We tried any “24-7” shops we could find on Google. First one was within 25 miles but they didn’t answer then the same with shops within 50 and 75 miles. We called Chance and he answered and came out to us even though we were 90 miles away. He fixed our problem and even went above and beyond by tightening some pulleys that were concerning to him. We made it to our next show 5 hours down the road and are greatly appreciative for his service. Thank you chance and amber :)

Where We Run

The Cedar Valley and Three Corridors

Waterloo, Cedar Falls and Evansdale are minutes away. From there the run goes south down I 380 to Cedar Rapids, east and west along US 20, and north on US 218 toward Waverly. Distance is always discussed on the phone before anyone is dispatched.

Questions Drivers Actually Ask

Do you really answer at night?
Yes. A technician answers the phone rather than a call center, and the profile has been set to open twenty four hours since the business started. Several reviews specifically mention being the only company that picked up after eleven at night.
How far will you travel?
The Cedar Valley and the I 380, US 20 and US 218 corridors are routine. Longer runs happen and have happened, including a call ninety miles out at three in the morning. Distance is discussed on the phone before anyone is dispatched, so the cost is never a surprise.
What does a roadside call cost?
You are quoted the callout, the labor and the travel on the phone before a truck rolls. There is a two hour labor minimum and travel is billed post to post, which is standard for heavy duty mobile work. Nothing starts until you agree to the number.
Can you fix it on the shoulder, or will it need a shop?
Most roadside work never needs a shop. Tires, air, electrical, lighting, filters, brakes and a long list of trailer repairs are all field work. When a job genuinely belongs in a bay you get told that early rather than after four hours of labor.
Do you carry parts, or will you have to leave for them?
Common failure parts ride on the service truck, including air hose and fittings, governors, lighting, connectors, filters, fluids and a working selection of new and used commercial tires. Reviews mention this specifically, because a tech who leaves for parts doubles the length of the call.
