Air problems are the most quietly dangerous thing on a truck, because the system is designed to fail toward the parking brake. That is a good design and a terrible way to find out about a leak, since it usually happens in the worst possible place.

Finding a leak is a trade skill. Pressure drop rates, a soap bottle, an ear and a sequence of isolating the supply, service and parking circuits will locate a leak in minutes where guesswork spends an afternoon. Rig Doctor carries air hose, fittings and governors on the truck, which several customers have specifically noted, because a leak found and not fixed is not a repair.
Brake work on the roadside covers slack adjusters out of stroke, chambers that will not hold, dragging shoes, frozen valves and lines chafed through against a frame rail or a spring. These are exactly the items an inspector checks, and they are exactly the items that put a unit out of service when they are ignored.
If the repair is beyond the shoulder, you hear that before the clock runs up. Some brake work belongs on a level surface with the wheels chocked and the right tooling, and saying so is part of the job.
What That Covers
- Air leak diagnosis by pressure test and isolation
- Air lines, glad hands, fittings and hose replaced on site
- Brake chambers, slack adjusters and valves serviced
- Governor and compressor faults diagnosed
- Trailer air system and gladhand seal problems
Read the Symptom
What It Usually Means
Low air buzzer at idle
Something is leaking faster than the compressor can keep up. Do not chase it at highway speed.
Brakes drag or will not release
A stuck valve, a seized chamber or a frozen line. In winter, moisture in the tank is a common cause.
Air builds slowly or not at all
Governor, compressor or an unloader fault. The truck may move, but the safety margin is gone.
Trailer brakes grabbing
Out of adjustment, contaminated shoes or a valve problem. It chews tires and it fails inspection.
